Wat is Ginkgo biloba?

Ginkgo biloba is een kruidensupplement. Het ondersteunende effect op het geheugen en de doorbloeding, maken de Ginkgo biloba supplementen populair.

Ginkgo biloba is een boom afkomstig uit China en wordt ook wel Japanse notenboom of tempelboom genoemd. Het is een van de oudste boomsoorten ter wereld. De Ginkgo biloba boom wordt tegenwoordig gekweekt en vormt zaden. De bladeren en zaden van de boom worden al eeuwen gebruikt in de Chinese kruidengeneeskunde.

Ginkgo biloba extract

Uit gedroogde bladeren van de boom kan Ginkgo biloba extract gewonnen worden. De werkzame stof in Ginkgo biloba is Ginkgo. Ginkgo staat erom bekend dat het een gunstig effect heeft op de bloedsomloop en de hersenen.

Waar komt Ginkgo biloba vandaan?

Ginkgo biloba komt oorspronkelijk uit China en is vanuit daar geëxporteerd naar Japan. In China en Japan wordt de boom al eeuwenlang bij tempels geplant, vandaar de naam Japanse tempelboom. Tegenwoordig komt de boom niet meer in het wild voor maar wordt hij gekweekt. In de achttiende eeuw werd de Ginkgo biloba in Nederland geïntroduceerd en sindsdien wordt de boom ook hier gekweekt.
